Channahon Concrete Near the Rivers

Channahon is defined by water, and concrete contractors in Channahon have to build with that in mind. The Des Plaines, Kankakee and DuPage rivers meet here to form the Illinois River, and the name comes from a Potawatomi phrase meaning meeting of the waters. The Illinois and Michigan Canal runs through the village and crosses the DuPage at Channahon State Park, where two of the canal's locks were built. Low ground near the rivers stays wet, and wet ground is hard on concrete.

Drainage comes first

Water that sits under a slab freezes, expands and lifts it. On lower Channahon lots we look hard at where water goes: the slope of the yard, the downspouts and any low spots the new slab will cross. We dig out soft or organic soil, build a compacted stone base and give every surface enough fall to shed water. Sometimes a drain or a change in downspout routing is part of the plan.

A village that grew late

Channahon was first incorporated in 1896, dissolved in 1908 and reincorporated on December 11, 1961. It had 4,266 residents in 1990 and 7,344 in 2000, then grew to 12,560 in 2010 and 13,383 in 2020. Most homes are from the last 30 years, so the typical driveway or patio is starting to show its age: cracked aprons, scaled surfaces and panels that have dropped near the garage.

Room to spread out

Channahon has about 4,684 housing units spread over roughly 17 square miles, around 277 per square mile, so lots tend to be larger. That often means longer drives, larger patios and slabs for sheds or detached garages. We plan joints and reinforcement for the size of the slab, not a one-size layout.

Two counties, one process

Most of Channahon lies in Will County, with part in Grundy. Either way, we check the village permit requirements for your address, call J.U.L.I.E. before digging and plan around any easements on the plat. Call (815) 205-0805 to schedule an estimate.

Channahon Questions

My Channahon yard stays wet. Can I still get a patio?

Yes, but the base and drainage matter more. We remove soft soil, build up compacted stone and slope the patio so water leaves it. Sometimes we suggest moving a downspout or adding a drain.

Can you pour a slab for a shed or pole building?

Yes. Tell us the size and what the slab will hold, and we will set the thickness, base and any thickened edges.

Do you work in the Grundy County part of Channahon?

Yes. We work throughout the village in both Will and Grundy counties.
